BRIONY: “Perhaps I should have written Leon a story. If you write a story
you only have to say the word castle, and you can see the towers and the woods
and the village below. But, with a play it’s….it all depends on other people.”
Briony Tallis, the true artistic savant that she is, speaking for all of us when she points out the difficulty of collaborative works like plays (and film, incidentally). It is not ideal when your creative output depends on other people. When you write the story yourself, you don’t have to depend on other people. You can simply say it is so, and so it shall be.
And, what an evocative line considering the way Briony loves to tell stories.
