Randomness: A musical interlude through images

Keeping in mind how I'm typically wont to appreciate things about the AMPAS that many don't I've always found some of their movie montages at the yearly ceremonies more charming than annoying. One of my favourites in recent memory is the ace us of the King's Speech in, err, The King's Speech when the various films of 2010 were edited over the audio of Firth's voice. It was such a key example of how film themes are so connected across genre (and we know how much I love that) and for all its potential lack of subtlety, I was a fan.

This year, I don't know if the montages will be back in full force or not but count me as one who's betting on a 2012 film montage set to Anne Hathaway belting "I Dreamed A Dream". I meant to edit a montage of my own this weekend to prepare for the Oscars, but then realised all my editing software was on my work computer. So, in lieu of an actual video here's the next best thing - images.

There was a time when men were kind

When their voices were soft

And their words inviting

There was a time when love was blind

And the world was a song

And the song was exciting

There was a time….Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in times gone by

When hope was high and life worth living

I dreamed that love would never die

I dreamed that God would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid, and dreams were made and used and wasted

There was no ransom to be paid

No song unsung, No wine untasted

But the tigers come at night, With their voices soft as thunder

As they tear your hope apart

And they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side

He filled my days with endless wonder

He took my childhood in his stride

But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he'll come to me

That we will live the years together

But there are dreams that cannot be

And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be

So different from this hell I'm living

So different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed

The dream I dreamed

End montage.

Happy Oscar viewing day, everybody. Make wise decisions and don't do anything too rash.
