Cinematic Knowledge: The Departed

THE SETUP
BILLY: “Cranberry juice.”
THE REACTION
MAN: “It’s a natural diuretic. My girlfriend drinks it when she’s getting her period.”

MAN: “What, are you getting your period?”

THE FALLOUT

Lesson Learned: Don’t insult a man’s choice of drink. Especially if it’s Billy Costigan (and Cranberry Juice is a natural diuretic).

Cranberry juice is also the cheapest item at a bar, which is why I assume Costigan ordered it.

I have not seen The Departed yet so I quite enjoyed that. And yes, us ladies do drink it for various reasons.

wow, I've actually seen this film only once and I wasn't THAT crazy about it then. 2006's Best Picture race is one to be revisited. As I remember it, I had stronger feelings for Letters from Iwo Jima and for Clint's direction.

I know you're a fan of Departed. Even so, I still think it's a good movie, as I remember it.

but Letter from Iwo Jima could be for ages.

I don't know about "period," but I'd definitely make a case for PMS! :D

I like Cranberry Juice, but I don't think I'd defend it to quite that extent.

It's an interesting scene because we neverreally know exactly why Costigan does it. Is it to impress the hardened criminals around him, or is it purely because he's so tense all the time?
