Scarlett Woman

I'm not really big on celebrity birthdays, but a few days one of the most vivacious young actresses celebrated her 25th birtday, I'm in the mood for list making so it occurred to me that I'd make a list of Scarlett's better times on sreen. I know it's currently en vogue to dislike her, and sure she's not the best actress of her time. But I do feel she's talented. Take a look at my five favourite Scarlett moments.
Olivia Wenscombe in The Prestige (2006)

"He wants me to come work for you and steal your secrets."

Pursy Will in A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004)

"Everyone knows that books are better than life! That's why they're books!"

Cristina in Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

"I'll go to your room, but you'll have to seduce me."

Charlotte in Lost in Translation (2003)

"My husband's a photographer, so he's here working. I wasn't doing anything so I came along."

Nola Rice in Match Point (2005)

"I was doing fine until you came along."

I think she's a talented actress, but very single character bound. By that I mean she doesn't possess a wide range of emotional display so she doesn't grab at the viewer. But I think she's very good in the sort of quieter roles. The kind that rely more on conversational dialogue and such.

I'm not sure about Scarlett Johansson. Reading this did remind of some of the good things she has done but I wasn't a big fan of The Prestige (I know that's inciting criticism, a lot of people are big fans of The Prestige) or Match Point and I would go as far as saying her performance in The Black Dahlia is one of the worst in my recent memory. The jury is out in my book.

Great list! I really like her work - my wife loathes her for reasons I don't understand.

There are two roles of hers that stick out for me that you haven't menioned, though most of the best ones are up there (especially MATCH POINT and BARCELONA).

GHOST WORLD, where she plays the yin to Thora Birch's quirky yang in such a wonderful and understated way.

THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE, with her small but crucial role as Birdie...the girl who literally sends Ed Crane's life of the road.

She's good,but as Univarn says,she is limited.

She's fine. Her name on the marquee just doesn't excite me like "Anne Hathaway" or "Penelope Cruz" does is allll

To be very blunt about this....She is so hot.

joe; univarn as a fan, i can admit her range is not very wide, but she has a certain physicality as an actress that's quite profound. something she needs to utilise to her advantage more often.

thisetimeitwillbedifferent i didn't watch out dahlia but i thought she tried with a bland role.

the mad hatter my sister too loathes her and is only now coming around. i don't what's the reason for the hate. curiously i had both those performances there, but seven didn't have that ring as five. and i was too lazy to find pictures :)

jude nooooooooooo. anne hathaway? let's just say, i'm no fan. cruz...yeah.

zach not blunt. it's fact.

I've loved a lot of her work and I think she's a very talented woman. She was pitch-perfect in Lost in Translation and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and showed a somewhat versatile side with her performance in Match Point.
